Egypt has pledged its support to the Palestinian Authority in strengthening security and governance in Gaza as part of a broader reconstruction initiative. Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, announced that the country would be training Palestinian police forces to be deployed in the Gaza Strip, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region. These remarks came during a joint press conference with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa in Cairo.

The collaboration between Egypt and the Palestinian Authority aims to establish stable security structures in Gaza, which has faced years of political and military unrest. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s alignment with the Palestinian Authority regarding security and governance arrangements in Gaza, reaffirming Egypt’s ongoing support for Palestinian efforts to rebuild the region and restore normalcy.

“Egypt is committed to maintaining security in Gaza, and forces will be trained to enforce the rule of law in the Strip,” stated Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, according to the State Information Service (SIS). The training of Palestinian police forces is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that Gaza’s security infrastructure is rebuilt and operational, facilitating the region’s long-term stability.

As part of its efforts to address the situation in Gaza, Egypt is also finalizing preparations for the emergency Arab summit on Gaza, which will take place in Cairo on March 4. Prior to the summit, Arab foreign ministers will convene for a preparatory meeting on March 2 to discuss critical issues facing Gaza and the broader Palestinian cause.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s strong commitment to supporting the Palestinian Authority and ensuring peace and security in Gaza. The summit is expected to focus on coordinated efforts among Arab nations to address Gaza's reconstruction and provide humanitarian aid to those affected by the ongoing conflict.

In recent weeks, Egypt has also been vocal in rejecting proposals to displace the Palestinian people, emphasizing its stance on preserving the Palestinian cause. Egypt's position, as stated by the Presidency, is to avoid actions that would "liquidate" the Palestinian cause or jeopardize the national security of neighboring countries in the region.

This position aligns with Egypt’s broader efforts to ensure that any solution to the Gaza crisis remains rooted in the rights of the Palestinian people and does not undermine their territorial integrity or sovereignty.

Former Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, Amira Oron, recently suggested that Egypt could play a role in peacekeeping efforts in Gaza, provided there is agreement from Israel on Palestinian Authority civilian management of the enclave. This reflects Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to support Palestinian leadership and facilitate a peaceful resolution to the situation in Gaza, emphasizing stability and long-term peace for the region.
