The survey also delved into questions of identity, revealing that 33.9% of Arab Israelis regard their Israeli citizenship as the most important aspect of their personal identity, a notable increase during the war. Meanwhile, only 9% emphasized their Palestinian identity as the dominant component, and 26.9% cited their Arab identity as most important. 

Perspectives on Gaza’s Future and Regional Relations

As for the future governance of Gaza post-war, opinions among Arab Israelis appear divided. While less than half (43.2%) of respondents believe that Gaza should remain under Palestinian control, there has been a decline in this belief since June 2024, when 58.5% supported Palestinian governance. Interestingly, 45.1% of Arab Israelis favor external, non-Palestinian governance of Gaza, with 17.9% supporting Israeli control and 7.1% backing Arab states taking leadership.

Additionally, the survey revealed that more than half (53.4%) of Arab Israelis view a potential normalization agreement with Saudi Arabia as a positive regional development. A near-equal percentage (49.2%) believe that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should not be a precondition for such an agreement.

This rise in export volume is seen as a significant rebound, reflecting a temporary peak in Saudi Arabia’s crude shipments. However, Saudi Arabia’s overall production slightly declined by 3,000 bpd to 8.972 million bpd in October, consistent with the Kingdom's commitment to maintaining production at around 9 million bpd. 

Crude oil refinery runs also decreased slightly, down to 2.737 million bpd, while direct crude burning for power generation continued its downward trend following the end of the hotter months in the desert Kingdom. Direct crude burn fell by 156,000 bpd to 362,000 bpd.

OPEC+ Production Cuts and Global Oil Market Challenges

Despite its strong export performance, Saudi Arabia is continuing to shoulder a major burden of the OPEC+ production cuts. The Kingdom is cutting an additional 1 million bpd in a unilateral move, which is part of the broader OPEC+ agreement to reduce production by 2.2 million bpd. However, the impact of these cuts has been dampened by weaker-than-expected demand, especially from China.

Earlier this month, OPEC+ decided to delay the easing of these cuts, pushing the timeline for starting production increases to April 2025, with a full unwinding of the cuts extended to September 2026. This forecast is more specific than last year’s estimate, which anticipated the peak between 2026 and 2030.

The slowing demand growth is attributed to a combination of factors, including weaker economic performance and China’s growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and LNG-powered trucks. By 2035, it is predicted that half of the cars on Chinese roads will be electric, further dampening demand for road fuel like gasoline.

Additionally, some experts, like Vitol Group CEO Russell Hardy, believe that gasoline demand in China may peak as early as this year or next, driven largely by the country’s shift to electric vehicles.

Despite these shifts in demand, China remains a major driver of global oil prices and will continue to exert influence on the market, whether its demand peaks in the near future or continues its growth. At the same time, non-OPEC+ producers are expanding their supply, potentially eroding OPEC’s market share in the coming years.

Among those receiving aid, 85.4% cannot afford tutoring, 84.7% cannot pay for extracurricular activities, and 71% struggle to keep up with school payments. Moreover, 70% of families cannot afford necessary medications, while nearly 70% forgo home repairs due to financial constraints. Utility services are also affected, with over 22% of aid recipients reporting disconnections from electricity.

LATET’s report calls for immediate action from Israel's government to address the deepening poverty crisis. It highlights the need for a comprehensive action plan and the establishment of a national body dedicated to combating poverty. The report also warns that planned economic measures for 2025, such as raising VAT and freezing child allowances, will disproportionately burden low-income families and further deepen the hardship.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue to target Hezbollah infrastructure. On Wednesday, the IDF destroyed an underground Hezbollah tunnel in southern Lebanon that had been used for storing weapons and coordinating terror activities. The tunnel, which spanned dozens of meters, led to one of Hezbollah’s headquarters and was reportedly used to direct rocket attacks targeting Israeli communities in the Galilee.

The IDF discovered significant military equipment in the tunnel, including hundreds of explosive devices, rifles, grenades, and other weapons. The weapons were seized, and the headquarters were destroyed during the operation, carried out by the elite Yahalom unit. 

The military emphasized that its operations in southern Lebanon would continue, targeting Hezbollah's military infrastructure while adhering to the terms of the ceasefire with Lebanon.

Ramat Gan School Destroyed by Missile Debris from Houthi Attack

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the missile was shot down overnight, but some fragments from the missile or its interceptor fell onto the school, causing the destruction of its main building. Despite the significant damage, no injuries were reported, though some parked cars in the vicinity were damaged by the falling debris. Sirens had gone off earlier, prompting millions of Israelis to rush to bomb shelters in the middle of the night.

In response to the attack, Ramat Gan’s mayor reassured the public that the students of Ramat Ef’al would be transferred to a different school while the damage was assessed. Local psychological services would also be available to support the community in the aftermath of the attack. Education Minister Yoav Kisch visited the site and confirmed that the students would likely be able to return to their studies within a couple of weeks, as an alternative building was already available for use.

Fortunately, the attack took place during the night, preventing any students or staff from being in the school at the time. Nir, a father of one of the students, expressed his relief: "It’s lucky that there were no children here. It’s awful." Meanwhile, Ravit Baranes, a mother of a student at the school, described the mixed reactions among students, some of whom were hoping for a few days off from school.

This missile attack is part of a broader series of assaults launched by the Houthi rebels, who have targeted Israel with over 200 missiles and 170 drones in the past year. These attacks are reportedly in support of Gaza, where Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, has been in conflict with Israel since October 2023.

In response to the missile attacks, Israel carried out preplanned bombing missions targeting Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the capital Sana’a and critical ports. Israeli Air Force jets struck Houthi sites to prevent weapon shipments from Iran to the rebels, further intensifying the regional conflict. 

Kisch praised the IDF’s response, stating that the airstrikes sent a strong message: “The long and strong arm of Israel will reach all arenas that act against us.”

In addition to the damage in Ramat Gan, smaller fragments from the intercepted missiles were found in other areas, including Modiin and near the Knesset building in Jerusalem. In Modiin, minor damage occurred, but fortunately, there were no injuries. Similarly, two small fragments were discovered outside the Knesset, with no reported harm, and were promptly removed by Israel Police.

The Houthis have claimed responsibility for these missile launches, positioning themselves in opposition to Israel's actions in Gaza. However, the IDF’s air defense systems have successfully intercepted the majority of these missiles, with a few hitting buildings and causing casualties in Tel Aviv.

UN Urges Urgent Action to Restore 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal Amid Growing Tensions

Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, stressed that the success or failure of restoring the deal is crucial not just for the countries involved but for global stability. “Time is of the essence,” DiCarlo said, highlighting the pressing need to address regional tensions and prevent further instability.

The JCPOA, which involved Britain, Germany, France, the United States, Russia, and China, was a landmark agreement designed to limit Iran’s nuclear program. However, the United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018 under President Donald Trump, leading Iran to gradually move away from its nuclear commitments.

The urgency of diplomacy has been emphasized by both the US and European powers. US Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood reaffirmed that while diplomacy remains the preferred option, the United States will not tolerate a nuclear-capable Iran. “We are prepared to use all elements of national power to ensure that outcome,” Wood said.

Britain, France, and Germany have indicated that they are ready to trigger a "snap back" of international sanctions if necessary, to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. However, this option will no longer be available after October 18 next year, when the 2015 UN resolution on the deal expires.
