In the last 24 hours, the IDF and Hezbollah both confirmed that Ibrahim Aqil, considered to be the most likely successor for assassinated Hezbollah chief of staff Fuad Shukr, was himself assassinated along with at least 15 other senior Radwan Force commanders in an IDF airstrike in Beirut on Friday evening.
Abu Hassan Samir, who served as the head of the Radwan Force training unit, was also among the casualties from this strike. He had held several positions in the organization and was a key figure in the plan to "Conquer the Galilee" through a series of October 7th style attacks. But he had also participated in several actual attacks targeting Israelis over the years, including in this current conflict.
Some analysts are beginning to openly question how effective Hezbollah's combat battalions can continue to be after losing so many of their most highly trained and capable commanders.
