Negotiations surrounding a potential hostage deal and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas are reportedly 90% complete, according to a Palestinian official involved in the talks. However, several significant issues still need resolution before a final agreement can be reached.

The discussions have been complicated by the presence of Israeli troops in the Philadelphi Corridor, a critical area along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt. According to reports, this remains one of the main sticking points in the negotiations. Furthermore, the Israeli demand for Hamas to provide a list of both living and deceased prisoners, along with the inclusion of Israeli soldiers held hostage in Gaza, has been another obstacle.

Sources involved in the talks have also indicated that the potential deal could include the creation of a buffer zone along the Gaza-Israel border, with Israel maintaining a military presence in the region. While progress is being made, a full resolution is still pending as Hamas has yet to present the full list of hostages to be released, nor have they submitted the names of Palestinian prisoners they seek to free in exchange.

Hostages Families Rally for a Comprehensive Deal

Amid the ongoing negotiations, families of the hostages have continued to advocate for a comprehensive deal that would ensure the return of all hostages. The Hostages Families Forum organized a rally in Tel Aviv, where family members of the captives voiced their concerns and frustrations. Einav Zangauker, the mother of hostage Matan Zangauker, who recently marked his second birthday in captivity, criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allegedly stalling the deal.

"Netanyahu wants to bury my Matan in the tunnels. An end to the war in Gaza and a comprehensive deal to return all the hostages is in Israel's interest!" Zangauker stated passionately during the rally.

Divisive Politics and Hostage Negotiations

Criticism of Netanyahu has been intense, particularly among the families of the hostages. Danny Elgert, the brother of hostage Itzik Elgert, accused the Israeli government of obstructing the hostage deal and fueling a campaign against the families. He expressed frustration at the government’s handling of the situation, calling it "vile and evil" and demanding action to secure the hostages' release.

Yotam Cohen, whose brother Nimrod Cohen is among the hostages, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the dire conditions faced by those still held captive by Hamas. "The kidnapped are freezing in wet, dark tunnels, in immediate danger of death and suffering," Cohen lamented.

While the hostage deal and ceasefire negotiations are close to completion, sources warn that key issues still need to be resolved. As the situation develops, the families of the hostages continue to hold out hope for a breakthrough, but they remain deeply concerned about the ongoing suffering of their loved ones.
