In a strategic move to bolster Israel's defense capabilities, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi announced the establishment of five new reserve brigades, known as the "David Brigades," following a comprehensive operational review. These brigades will focus on defensive missions along various borders and are designed to respond effectively to emerging threats.

The five new brigades will be named after regions in Israel: Negev ("Negba"), Shfela ("Yonatan"), Emekim ("Yizraeli"), Jerusalem ("Ari"), and Galilee-Golan. These units will strengthen Israel’s defense forces by providing an optimal response to any escalating situation.

"We have learned that the IDF needs to be larger, broader, and prepared for difficult situations and prolonged wars," Halevi stated. The new brigades will be composed primarily of reserve soldiers between the ages of 38 and 58, including many volunteers who have already served in the military and are now returning to the reserves. These individuals bring invaluable experience and professionalism, ensuring that the IDF remains agile and effective in the face of any challenge.

The reserve brigades will be crucial in easing the strain on existing reserve forces, which have been under intense pressure in recent months. Halevi praised the reservists who have continued to serve with dedication, saying, "I salute the reservists who are handling this with great quality and honor."

The creation of these five new reserve brigades is part of Israel's ongoing efforts to ensure its security and military readiness. With a focus on defensive operations and the use of experienced reservists, the IDF aims to further strengthen its position in an unpredictable security environment.
