The IDF has confirmed that 21-year-old Fawzia Amin Sido, a Yazidi woman who had been held in Gaza for nearly a decade, has been freed and safely returned to her family in Iraq.

Fawzia was only 11 years old when she was trafficked by ISIS and sold to a Hamas operative in Gaza, who sympathized with the Islamic State. During "Operation Iron Swords," the militant holding her was killed, likely in an IDF airstrike. Seizing the opportunity, Fawzia fled to a safe location, where international authorities were able to extract her from Gaza.

The complex rescue operation, led by the IDF's Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), involved coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Israel and other international partners. Fawzia was transported out of Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing, then into Jordan via the Allenby Bridge, and finally reunited with her family in Iraq.

This story underscores the ongoing humanitarian efforts amid the broader conflict and the importance of international cooperation in securing the release of those held by terrorist organizations.
