The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully dismantled a Hamas terror tunnel in the Jabaliya area of northern Gaza on Sunday, marking a significant blow to the militant group's underground infrastructure. The operation, which took place on Sunday evening, was carried out by the Northern Gaza Brigade in the 143rd Division, in collaboration with the elite Yahalom Unit, renowned for its expertise in counter-tunnel operations.
The IDF operation led to the discovery and destruction of a tunnel route that stretched for hundreds of meters, equipped with blast doors, living quarters, and RPG launchers. This tunnel was a critical asset for Hamas terrorists, who used it to target Israeli forces. In addition, the operation neutralized numerous booby-trapped tunnel shafts and explosives, disrupting Hamas’s terror capabilities in the region.
During the mission, IDF troops encountered resistance from Hamas militants who emerged from the tunnel and launched anti-tank missiles. The swift and coordinated response from both ground and air forces effectively neutralized the threat, eliminating the attackers and ensuring the success of the operation.
The IDF emphasized that the destruction of this tunnel is a part of its ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas's underground terror infrastructure, which has been a major component of the group's operations in Gaza. The Israeli military continues to target and destroy Hamas's tunnel network as part of its broader security operations in the region.
