The IDF announced on Sunday that Ahmed Jafar Maatouk, Hezbollah's commander of the Bint Jbeil area of southern Lebanon, had been eliminated in an air strike the previous Friday. His deputy was also eliminated a short time later. This was just one of many actions the IDF has carried out in southern Lebanon in recent days to degrade the threat Hezbollah poses to communities in Israel's north.
In a related story, the IDF announced on Sunday that it is deploying an M61 Vulcan cannon, produced by the Israeli Tamar Group, on the northern border to counter the threat from drones. The cannon has six 20mm barrels and can fire at a rate of 6,000 rounds per minute.
Similar weapons have been deployed in an air defense capacity by the US military for decades, both to defend land bases and naval ships.
