The IDF announced on Tuesday evening that a tunnel running under the border between Hezbollah-occupied southern Lebanon had been found, cleared and demolished. The announcement went on to say that the tunnel was actually found a few months ago and crossed ten meters into Israeli territory from Marwahin in southern Lebanon. It had been filled with weapons and anti-tank missiles, and other equipment and supplies. In related news, the IDF said on Tuesday that it is considering allowing residents of northern communities to return to their homes.

Many things will need to be done before they can return, however, including rebuilding and reinforcing the infrastructure in the area. Repairs will need to be made to communities, roads, water and electricity distribution systems which have been damaged by Hezbollah rockets, among other things.

In related news, a debate is ongoing in the defense establishment about how long the IDF can afford to stay in southern Lebanon, given the likely increase in political pressure from the US as well as the oncoming winter weather.
