The IDF has announced that in a targeted strike this Tuesday, it successfully eliminated Ibrahim Qubaisi, the head of Hezbollah's missile and rocket division, along with his deputy Abbas Ibrahim Sharaf Al-Din, and another senior figure named Hussein Hani, who was known to be close to Fouad Shukr, a prominent Hezbollah leader killed by an IDF strike in Lebanon last July.
These figures were significant for Hezbollah's operational and strategic capabilities, providing years of knowledge and leadership in building up the group's terrorist operations targeting Israel's civilian areas. "These operatives were key sources of knowledge in Hezbollah’s terror activities and led efforts to build military capabilities against Israel over the years," said the IDF spokesperson.
The IDF has reiterated its determination to continue taking action against Hezbollah in order to restore security to northern Israel and its citizens. "The IDF will continue to act with strength and determination against the terrorist organization Hezbollah to restore security for the residents of northern Israel and the Israeli civilian front," added the spokesperson.
Increased Military Activity in Northern Israel
Amid the ongoing escalation in the northern front, the IDF has announced military exercises over the weekend in training areas (fire zones) within the northern region. "Entering training areas is prohibited as it poses a life-threatening risk and disrupts military operations," the IDF stressed. Residents in nearby communities may hear sounds of gunfire and explosions during the exercises.
Rocket Fire and Interceptions
The IDF also reported that around 10 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards Haifa and the Krayot area. Some of these rockets were intercepted, while others landed in open areas. Two people in Haifa were slightly injured while running to their safe room, though no significant casualties were reported.
Magen David Adom (MDA) Director-General Eli Bin confirmed reports of two rocket landings in Haifa with no injuries recorded. The Tiberias municipality also confirmed a single rocket landing in the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret) near the Dekel Beach on the northern promenade, without causing any injuries or damage. Tiberias Mayor Yossi Nevaeh stated, "The missile fell 20 meters from the shore—it’s a New Year’s miracle for Tiberians. One of the safety guidelines forbids watercraft operation during this period, which saves lives."
