Iran has indicated it will respond to US President Donald Trump’s invitation for nuclear talks, but only after a thorough review of the offer. In a statement on Monday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the US of not aligning its actions with its words, pointing to new sanctions imposed on Tehran despite the public invitation for dialogue.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian have already rejected Trump’s letter and his calls for negotiations, describing them as deceptive and an attempt at political bullying. However, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that a diplomatic response is being carefully considered.

"We have no reason to publicize the letter at this time," Baghaei said. "Our response will be delivered through proper channels after full scrutiny." He also pointed out the contradictions in the US stance, where the Trump administration expresses readiness for talks while simultaneously applying new sanctions that target Iran's economy.

Baghaei stressed that any diplomatic negotiations must respect the interests of both parties and require each side to honor its commitments. "The US does not respect that and uses the possibility of negotiations as a propaganda and political tool," he added, further expressing skepticism over the sincerity of the US approach.

The US had previously withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, re-imposing sanctions on Tehran. Since then, Iran has exceeded the limits set by the agreement, increasing its uranium enrichment to levels far higher than what is considered acceptable for civilian purposes. Western powers have voiced concerns that Iran's nuclear activities are aimed at developing nuclear weapons, but Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and that it abides by its international obligations.
