In recent days, Israel has ramped up its military activity in Syria, with airstrikes hitting key locations in the Damascus area. On Friday, Israeli forces attacked the Mezzeh suburb of Damascus for the second consecutive day. Syrian state media SANA reported the strike, which targeted areas once used by senior Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials but now believed to be occupied by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members and Hezbollah operatives.

While Israel has not officially commented on the Friday airstrikes, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the Thursday attack focused on military installations and the headquarters of Islamic Jihad. The IDF has consistently targeted military infrastructure connected to Iran and its regional allies, with the goal of disrupting weapons transfers and degrading Hezbollah's military capabilities.

Targeting Weapons Transfers to Hezbollah

One of the primary objectives of Israel’s recent operations in Syria has been to obstruct the flow of weapons from Iran to Hezbollah in Lebanon. On Thursday, the IDF carried out strikes against Syrian regime crossings on the Syria-Lebanon border, which are frequently used to transfer arms to Hezbollah. The IDF claimed that these operations were part of a broader strategy to reduce Iran's ability to arm Hezbollah and support terrorist operations against Israeli targets.

According to the IDF, these attacks were aimed at the capabilities of Hezbollah's Unit 4400, which is responsible for the illicit arms transfers. The IDF explained that disrupting these routes was critical in preventing Hezbollah from further destabilizing the region and posing a threat to Israel’s security.

Hezbollah's Infrastructure Targeted

In addition to the recent strikes, the IDF has been focusing on Hezbollah’s infrastructure. Ten days ago, the IDF targeted Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters in Damascus, further weakening the group's operational capabilities. The strike was part of Israel's ongoing efforts to degrade Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in Syria, which includes an extensive network of weapons storage sites and missile launchers.
