Israel has officially selected its entry for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, with Yuval Raphael set to represent the country. Raphael, a survivor of the tragic October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on the Nova music festival, won the prestigious Next Star for Eurovision competition, earning the right to perform Israel's song at the global event.
The song, composed by Keren Peles (who also wrote last year's entry "Hurricane"), has already generated excitement. Much like "Hurricane," which secured a strong fifth-place finish in 2024, the new track includes verses from the Song of Songs, a revered section of the Bible. The song will be officially revealed during a special broadcast on KAN 11 on March 9, and will also be available across all KAN platforms.
The selection process was led by Barak Itzkovitz, director of KAN’s music stations, alongside senior figures in the Israeli music and TV industries, as well as a public representative. The song is currently under review by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for final approval.
Raphael’s personal story adds a profound layer to her Eurovision journey. She was one of the survivors of the devastating attack during the October 7 festival. She hid under the bodies of other victims in a bomb shelter for hours before being rescued. Her resilience is bound to resonate with audiences worldwide.
Early Eurovision betting tables are showing Israel in a leading position. According to Euromix, Israel tops the list of 37 competing countries, with Belgium and Sweden following in second and third places. Eurovision 2025 will take place in Basel, Switzerland, in May, and Israel's selection has already sparked optimism for a successful year.
