In a strong statement on Sunday, Mike Waltz, President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming national security adviser, emphasized U.S. support for Israel if Hamas fails to uphold the Gaza ceasefire-for-hostages agreement. Speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation, Waltz made it clear that the United States would stand behind Israel in taking necessary actions if Hamas backs out of the deal. He firmly declared, "Hamas will never govern Gaza. That is completely unacceptable."

Waltz's comments follow escalating tensions over the hostage situation in Gaza. He reiterated that the Trump administration has conveyed this message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ensuring that Israel has the backing of the U.S. in securing its objectives. Waltz also expressed optimism about future negotiations, particularly the potential for Israel and Saudi Arabia to reach a normalization agreement under the framework of the Abraham Accords.

Hostage Families Rally for Full Deal Implementation

The situation surrounding hostages held by Hamas continues to fuel intense emotions and demands for justice. On Sunday morning, family members of hostages, along with their supporters, gathered near the Washington Monument, calling on President Trump to secure the safe return of all hostages. Massive banners reading, "President Trump, you can save them, bring them home NOW" were displayed, highlighting the urgency of the issue. The rally took place just hours before the first group of hostages was released under the ceasefire agreement.

Hostages like Noa Argamani, who was successfully rescued by an IDF operation, spoke at the rally and thanked both President Trump and President Joe Biden for their efforts in securing the releases. However, Argamani stressed the need for the full implementation of the deal, with every hostage still being held in Gaza.

Jonathan Dekel-Chen, an American-Israeli whose son remains in captivity, voiced hope that the U.S. would continue its unwavering support in ensuring the full execution of the deal. Dekel-Chen, who had met with Waltz and hostage envoy Adam Boehler, praised the commitment of both officials to achieving a complete resolution.

Despite challenges, including potential setbacks with the Israeli government, families remain hopeful and trust the ongoing dedication from the Trump administration. Many hostages' relatives, such as Ronen Neutra and Liran Berman, emphasized that the U.S. remains the key negotiator in the process and expressed optimism that the remaining hostages would soon return home.
