Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday for a crucial diplomatic mission, marking the first foreign leader to meet with US President Donald Trump since his inauguration. Netanyahu's visit highlights the enduring strength of the US-Israel alliance and serves as a platform to address several significant issues affecting both nations and the Middle East region.

Before departing for Washington, Netanyahu underscored the importance of this meeting, stating that it "reflects the strength of the alliance between Israel and the United States" and underscores the achievements of the Abraham Accords, which were brokered under Trump's leadership. Netanyahu aims to further solidify these bonds and discuss key challenges facing Israel, including the defeat of Hamas, the safe return of hostages, and confronting Iran’s growing influence in the region.

"The decisions we have made during the war, combined with the heroism of IDF soldiers, have already transformed the Middle East beyond recognition," Netanyahu remarked, emphasizing the strategic shifts Israel has pursued in response to ongoing threats. He expressed confidence that working closely with President Trump, they could achieve even greater progress, particularly in expanding peace agreements and ensuring Israel's security.

During his visit, Netanyahu will meet with various US officials, including the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, National Security Advisor, and members of Congress. The most anticipated meeting, however, will be with President Trump on Tuesday, where Netanyahu will push for stronger actions to secure a second phase of the peace deal, particularly with regards to Hamas and Iran.

In addition to diplomatic discussions, Netanyahu's visit will touch on critical regional matters such as normalization with Saudi Arabia, as well as strategies for countering Iranian aggression. He will also discuss the future of hostages held by Hamas and Iran's ongoing nuclear program.
