The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Lahav 433 unit of the Israel Police announced on Monday that they had broken up an attempt by Iranian intelligence to recruit Israeli citizens to carry out attempts to assassinate Israeli leaders. Two residents of the northern Israeli city of Ramat Gan have been arrested in connection with the plot, one of whom had already taken money from Iranian agents in exchange for doing small jobs they gave him.
These jobs included spray painting anti-Israel graffiti, hanging posters, planting money, and setting cars on fire in the Yarkon Park area of Tel Aviv. There were plans for him to do even more damaging activities including setting forest fires and sabotaging ATM machines and other equipment. This was meant to escelate even further to assassinating an Israeli official and throwing a grenade at his house.
