Following his presidential win, Donald Trump is encouraging Israel to secure a decisive victory in its ongoing conflicts, signaling his preference for an end to the wars with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. GOP spokeswoman Elizabeth Pipko, speaking to Israel's Channel 12, stated that Trump expects Israel to conclude these wars “by winning it, one hundred percent.” Pipko added that Trump’s approach to conflicts aligns with his victory speech promise: “I’m not going to start wars, I’m going to stop wars.”

Pipko argued that the Biden administration’s policies contributed to the drawn-out conflict and said that a “decisive” approach to Middle Eastern enemies like Iran and Hamas is necessary. Pipko avoided comments on whether Trump would support an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities but stated he would address the matter upon taking office in January.

GOP Gains Pro-Israel Support in New York’s Swing Districts

In New York’s 17th Congressional District, Republican Rep. Mike Lawler retained his seat, securing around 57% of the vote. Lawler’s strong ties with Jewish communities in the district contributed to his victory over Democrat Mondaire Jones, who distanced himself from the Democratic Party’s progressive wing due to their criticisms of Israel. Lawler’s frequent support for Israel and measures against antisemitism resonated with the district’s 30,000 Orthodox Jewish voters.

Democratic candidates also saw significant wins in New York’s pro-Israel areas. Rep. Pat Ryan defended his seat in the 18th District, gaining support from both pro-Israel and non-Zionist Hasidic communities despite some criticism from progressives. Ryan advocated for a ceasefire in Gaza only under conditions, aligning with Israeli interests.

In New York’s 19th District, Democrat Josh Riley narrowly won over incumbent Republican Marc Molinaro, both of whom supported Israel’s stance on Gaza. Manhattan’s pro-Israel incumbents also retained their seats, with Rep. Jerrold Nadler winning in the 12th District and Rep. Ritchie Torres securing the 15th District. Both representatives, known for their strong pro-Israel positions, won with commanding leads.

Democratic Representative Tom Suozzi defeated Republican Michael LiPetri in Long Island and Queens’ 3rd Congressional District, continuing his advocacy for Israel and filling the seat vacated after George Santos was expelled from Congress.
