The New York Times published a report this week unveiling internal Hamas documents detailing the terror organization’s meticulous preparations for underground warfare against the IDF in Gaza. These documents, seized by Israeli forces during the ongoing ground operation, expose how Hamas built and enhanced its tunnel networks, including the installation of armored doors and advanced night-vision equipment.

The documents include a detailed training manual instructing militants on how to navigate and fight within the tunnels, including the use of GPS and infrared night-vision goggles. another document showed the approval by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar of a $225,000 budget to fortify key tunnels, making them resistant to aerial and ground attacks.

Another document revealed plans to use solar panels installed on the rooftops of private homes and other buildings with wires connecting to the electricity grid in the tunnels. Communications equipment manufactured by Nokia were also hooked up to this grid and some were discovered underneath UNRWA facilities.

These revelations highlight the significant challenges faced by the IDF in dismantling Hamas' extensive underground network, now estimated to be much larger and more sophisticated than previously thought.
