US Central Command (CENTCOM) Deputy Commander Admiral Brad Cooper and Deputy IDF Chief of Staff Maj.-Gen. Amir Baram met in Israel on Tuesday to discuss the growing threats posed by the Yemen-based Houthis. The meeting focused on countering the Houthi missile attacks on Israel, as well as addressing other regional security challenges in the Middle East.

The officials visited several air force bases, including the Nevatim base in the south, where they observed joint drills involving Israeli F-35s and American F-15s. The two military leaders are focused on strengthening their coordination to prevent further missile attacks from the Houthis, who have increased their frequency of missile launches toward Israel over the past weeks.

Persistent Houthi Missile Attacks

The Houthis, despite facing several large-scale strikes from Israel, including airstrikes on their maritime ports and international airport in Yemen, continue to fire ballistic missiles at Israel. The most recent missile attack was on Sunday, and while Israel’s air defense systems have prevented fatalities, the attacks have caused significant damage, including to a school in Tel Aviv and several other locations due to falling debris.

Since July 2024, there have been no casualties from Houthi missile attacks, but the missiles, drones, and shrapnel have forced millions of Israelis into bomb shelters in central and Tel Aviv regions. Despite the substantial Israeli military response, including airstrikes and a US CENTCOM strike on Houthi installations, the missile barrage persists.

Strengthening US-Israel Defense Relations

During the meeting, CENTCOM and IDF officials discussed improved intelligence sharing and strategies to end the Houthi missile threat. This collaboration is critical as the Houthis have launched over 200 missiles and nearly 200 drones at Israel, and efforts to target Houthi leaders are ongoing.

The two military leaders also participated in a strategic briefing on enemy tactics and operational activities. The visit highlighted the IDF's commitment to strengthening its ties with the US military to enhance regional stability and operational coordination.

The IDF also announced the deaths of three personnel on Monday and Tuesday, including two officers and one soldier, who were killed in battle while fighting in the Gaza Strip. Tributes are pouring in for the fallen soldiers, who served in the Nahal Brigade and had been involved in operations against Hamas in northern Gaza.
