The United States conducted targeted airstrikes on Iran-backed Houthi missile storage and command facilities in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, late Saturday night. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation aimed to "disrupt and degrade Houthi operations" in response to attacks on US Navy warships and merchant vessels in key maritime routes such as the Southern Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden.
The US Air Force and Navy, including F/A-18 fighter jets, executed precision strikes, also intercepting multiple Houthi one-way attack uncrewed aerial vehicles (OWA UAVs) and an anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) over the Red Sea.
This marks the fourth time this week that the US has targeted Houthi positions in Yemen. The strikes intensified following the redeployment of the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier to the region. The Houthis have disrupted international shipping lanes by repeatedly targeting commercial and military vessels since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Additionally, CENTCOM highlighted the broader US effort to safeguard regional stability, ensuring the protection of US and coalition forces, regional partners, and international shipping.
In related news, CENTCOM also announced the precision strike elimination of ISIS leader Abu Yusif and another key operative in Syria, underscoring the US military's continued focus on degrading terrorist activities in the region. CENTCOM’s ongoing operations aim to prevent ISIS from capitalizing on the instability in Syria and ensure they do not regain a foothold.
