In a landmark move, 245 individuals who have been victims of terror attacks filed a legal claim against the Palestinian Authority (PA) for a staggering NIS 1.255 billion. The lawsuit, which was reported by Walla on Thursday, is the largest of its kind to date and represents victims of multiple terror attacks, including the infamous Nova Festival massacre and others from recent years.
The claim was filed under the new Israeli law providing compensation for victims of terrorism, which allows for NIS 10 million to be awarded to heirs of murdered victims and NIS 5 million for those who have been permanently disabled due to a terror attack.
The Plaintiffs and Their Cases
The plaintiffs consist of the families of individuals who were murdered during the October 7 massacres, including the Nova Festival massacre, as well as other victims of terrorist acts. The lawsuit is directed at both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, accusing them of supporting and encouraging terrorist acts.
The claim asserts that the PA has actively initiated and promoted terrorist violence against Israeli citizens, even rewarding terrorists by making payments to them and their families. The lawsuit argues that this policy of financial rewards for terrorism serves as a direct incentive for future acts of violence.
Legal Battle Against Terrorism
Attorney Barak Kedem, representing the victims through the Kedem Arbus Law Firm, expressed a firm stance against the PA's policy, stating, "The PA's reward policy is disgusting. Paying terrorists is not only retroactive approval of terror attacks, but a direct incentive for future acts."
He emphasized that the fight against terrorism extends beyond the battlefield and into the legal realm, stressing the importance of cutting off the financial support that sustains terrorism. The lawsuit seeks to hold the Palestinian Authority accountable for its actions and put an end to its role in perpetuating terror.
