Elbit Systems has announced that its advanced 120mm Sling mortar system will be introduced to the United Kingdom in 2025, marking a significant leap in modernizing indirect fire support capabilities for light forces. Designed to enhance the deployability, lethality, and survivability of troops on the battlefield, the Sling system is poised to offer substantial tactical advantages in future combat scenarios.

The Sling system is equipped with a range of cutting-edge features aimed at improving battlefield effectiveness. One of its most notable capabilities is the integrated Fire Control System (FCS), which enables the mortar to fire accurately within just 30 seconds of deployment from the line of march. This “shoot and scoot” capability allows for quick execution of fire missions, with the ability to redeploy before enemy counter-battery fire can be initiated, significantly enhancing survivability in high-threat environments.

Elbit Systems highlighted that the Sling system is compatible with a variety of light platforms, including the Supacat Jackal and Toyota vehicles, offering flexibility for diverse operational scenarios. The system boasts impressive firepower, delivering 16 bombs per minute, with a sustained rate of 3-4 bombs per minute. Its range extends up to 7 kilometers when using standard ammunition, further expanding its effectiveness on the battlefield.

A key feature of the Sling system is its support for the 120mm Iron Sting Guided Mortar Munition (GMM), a precision-guided weapon that ensures accurate targeting while minimizing collateral damage. This advanced munition is essential for engaging entrenched or mobile enemy forces with maximum efficiency.

Elbit Systems also emphasized the importance of the UK supply chain in the development and deployment of the Sling system. The project is expected to create local jobs, foster skill development, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the UK defense industry.

As a trusted supplier of mortar systems to NATO countries such as the United States, Denmark, Romania, and Spain, Elbit Systems brings significant expertise to the UK program, ensuring that the Sling mortar system meets the operational requirements of British forces.
