Early on Friday morning, sirens sounded across central and southern Israel after a missile launched by Yemen's Houthi rebels was detected entering Israeli airspace, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The missile was intercepted by Israel’s anti-missile defense systems, though shrapnel from the interception fell in Modi'in, a city located between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Fortunately, no one was reported wounded from the falling debris. However, Israel's emergency medical service, Magen David Adom, reported that 12 individuals were injured while rushing to shelters, along with nine additional panic-related injuries.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack on Telegram, sharing videos showing people fleeing to shelters, taken from Israeli social media channels. Over the past week, the Houthis have launched nightly missile attacks against Israel, most of which have been intercepted before reaching Israeli territory.
In a related development later on Friday, the IDF reported that the Israeli Air Force successfully intercepted a drone launched from Yemen before it could enter Israeli airspace. No alerts were activated for the drone, in line with the IDF's defense protocols.
