The IDF announced on Tuesday that Staff Sgt. Noam Israel Abdu, 20, of the Bislamach Brigade’s 17th Battalion, from the town of Kadima-Zoran, was killed in action on Monday while participating in operations against Hamas in the northern Gaza city of Jabaliya. This brings the total number of IDF troops killed in action in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in operations along the border to 348. A police officer and a civilian Defense Ministry contractor have also been killed in these operations.

The operation in Jabaliya was launched to counter what IDF intelligence believes is a serious attempt by Hamas to regroup and reassert authority in the city. Several dozen Hamas terrorists have already been eliminated in the operation, including 20 in the last 24 hours. Large stocks of weapons, ammunition and military supplies have also been captured, depriving Hamas of the means to attack IDF troops or Israeli civilians.

“The operation will continue as long as necessary, while systematically striking and thoroughly destroying the terror infrastructure in the area,” the military said.

This is the fourth anti-terrorism operation in Jabaliya over the past year. As with previous operations, it has been necassary to move the civilian population out of the city and into designated safe zones further to the south. The majority of Gaza's civilian population is already in these safe zones, and it is where most of the humanitarian aid is being delivered. It also has medical facilities and other infrastructure.

In related news, the IDF and Shin Bet security agency announced on Tuesday that three more Hamas terrorists who participated in the October 7 massacre have been eliminated in recent days.

The IDF named these slain terrorists as Muhammad Rafai, Muhammad Zanun and Bassel Akhars.
