The Israel National Basketball Team has secured their place at the 2025 EuroBasket tournament after defeating Ukraine in back-to-back games during the FIBA qualifying window. These two victories mean that Israel can now focus on preparing for the main event, as they’ve mathematically guaranteed their spot in the European Championship and no longer need to worry about their remaining two qualifiers in February.
Head Coach Ariel Beit Halachmi, who has revitalized the team since taking over, can now shift his focus from stressful qualification matches to building his squad for EuroBasket. The blue-and-white’s commanding win over Ukraine, particularly their second game in Riga, Latvia, which saw them overcome a 40-29 halftime deficit, demonstrated the depth and resilience of the Israeli team.
Despite a challenging first half, Israel turned things around in the second half, outscoring Ukraine 59-35 and securing an 88-75 victory. This impressive comeback ensured their spot in one of the four group-stage locations: Latvia, Poland, Cyprus, or Finland, with the knockout rounds to be held in Riga.
Beit Halachmi expressed pride in his team’s performance, highlighting the collective effort that made the victory possible. "Everyone contributed, and in the second half, we showed our depth," said Beit Halachmi. His efforts to unite the team around a common goal have paid off, with Israel now in prime position for the EuroBasket tournament this summer.
Looking ahead, Coach Beit Halachmi remains focused on team success rather than individual achievements. “It’s about the group. We had a special connection, and we achieved this as a team,” he reflected. As the squad prepares for EuroBasket 2025, Israel’s basketball future looks promising, with a blend of experienced players and exciting young talent.
