On Thursday, an Israeli Air Force aircraft successfully eliminated Mohammed Mahdi Ali Shaheen, a senior member of the Hezbollah terror group, in the Hermel area of Lebanon, the Israeli military announced on Friday. Shaheen was responsible for overseeing weapons transactions along the Syrian-Lebanese border, playing a significant role in the arms trade that fueled Hezbollah’s operations.

Shaheen’s primary function was acting as a middleman, facilitating the purchase and transfer of weapons for Hezbollah. Working with various smugglers and dealers on the Syrian-Lebanese border, Shaheen was involved in bringing weapons into Lebanon for Hezbollah’s military units. His operations took place during the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, violating the established understandings between Israel and Lebanon regarding peace and security.

By eliminating a key figure in the terrorist organization’s logistical network, Israel aims to prevent the continued arming of Hezbollah, which poses a direct threat to Israel’s security.

“Shaheen’s actions posed a threat to the State of Israel and constituted a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the Israeli military stated in its announcement.

As a powerful proxy force backed by Iran, Hezbollah’s operations in Lebanon remain a significant concern for Israel, which continues to monitor and neutralize threats posed by the terror group. The Israeli military remains committed to safeguarding its borders and preventing the smuggling of weapons to hostile forces.
