The Central District police announced on Thursday that special unit officers had arrested five Israeli citizens, residents of the Arab community of Taybeh in the Galilee, on suspicion of being part of an ISIS cell planning mass terror attacks in Israel. The target if their planned attack was the Azrieli Mall in Tel Aviv, and they were found to be in possession of a firearm and explosives which they planned to use to shoot into crowds after detonating a car bomb at the mall.

The Gideonim Unit of the police, as well as Shin Bet operatives, were part of the investigation which led to the arrest of the five suspects on Tuesday.

It was further revealed that two of the suspects have already been in contact with ISIS agents abroad and were actively trying to join the group. They recruited the other three suspects, all of whom were in their 20s.
