Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been working with US lawmakers to gather backing for US President Donald Trump's Gaza plan. During a visit to Washington last week, Netanyahu met with members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate to gain support for the plan, which proposes relocating all Palestinians living in Gaza to other countries. This move is part of a larger plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip while addressing the ongoing humanitarian situation in the region.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Netanyahu is enthusiastic about the plan and has been actively engaging with American media to generate support for relocating Palestinians to countries like Egypt and Jordan, either as a temporary or permanent solution. Senior advisers to Netanyahu have been reaching out to influential columnists in US media to advocate for the plan.

Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, met with Republican senators who raised concerns about the plan soon after it was announced. In response to these concerns, White House officials clarified that the plan would not involve US taxpayer money, and no American soldiers would be stationed in Gaza.

Despite the clarifications, a recent CBS News poll revealed that the American public is largely opposed to Trump’s proposal, with 47% of respondents expressing disapproval and only 13% supporting it.

During a recent trip to New Orleans, Trump expressed his commitment to “owning” Gaza and ensuring that Hamas, the militant Palestinian group, does not regain control of the region. He also suggested that other Middle Eastern states could contribute to rebuilding sections of Gaza.

In response, Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya condemned the plan, labeling it “doomed” and asserting that Hamas would resist any such efforts. Al-Hayya’s comments came during a commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the Iranian revolution in Tehran, reflecting the ongoing tensions in the region.
