A recent survey conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute has highlighted significant dissatisfaction among Israelis with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership, particularly his role in the October 7 attacks. Nearly three-quarters of Israelis believe Netanyahu should either resign immediately or after the conclusion of the ongoing war with Hamas. Of those surveyed, 48% expressed that Netanyahu should step down now, while 25% said he should wait until the end of the war. Only 10% of respondents disagreed, stating that he should neither accept responsibility nor resign.

Regarding the ceasefire and hostage exchange deal, Israeli sentiment shows overwhelming support. A substantial 73% of Israelis favor continuing the deal, even if it involves a complete cessation of hostilities, withdrawal from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners. This underscores the public's priority on securing the release of hostages, even at a high cost.

The survey also explored Israeli views on US foreign policy, specifically President Donald Trump's role in the conflict. While 50% of Israelis trust that the Trump administration will continue to support Israel, nearly 40% expressed concerns that Trump might shift his stance if the priorities of both countries diverge.

Amid these political and military discussions, Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial is also a focal point. Netanyahu testified that his push for telecommunications reforms in 2015 was not intended to benefit Shaul Elovitch, the owner of Bezeq, but rather to foster competition in the marketplace and promote Israeli democracy. The prime minister also explained that his decision to fire former communications ministry director-general Avi Berger was not linked to any bribery scheme but was made to expedite the reforms before elections.
