US President Donald Trump emphasized on Saturday that he would prefer negotiating a deal with Iran to ensure it remains non-nuclear, rather than resorting to military action. In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, Trump expressed his desire for a diplomatic solution, stating, “I would like a deal done with Iran on non-nuclear. I would prefer that to bombing the hell out of it.” He added, “They don’t want to die. Nobody wants to die.”

Trump has consistently voiced his preference for a peaceful resolution to the Iran nuclear issue, underscoring the importance of diplomacy. In a recent post on Truth Social, he reiterated that his goal is for Iran to become a successful nation without nuclear weapons. “I want Iran to be a great and successful country, but one that cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Trump wrote.

Iran has maintained its stance that it is opposed to the development of nuclear weapons, citing the fatwa (religious decree) issued by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which prohibits the use of nuclear arms. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently addressed concerns from the US, asserting that Iran remains committed to its position as a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

However, Iranian officials have warned that external pressures could lead to a shift in policy. Reports suggest that some senior officials in Iran's military are pushing for reconsideration of the fatwa, given the perceived existential threat posed by Western nations. They argue that nuclear weapons may be crucial for Iran’s survival in the face of growing pressures.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lauded Trump's "maximum pressure" approach toward Iran, viewing it as the key to achieving a deal. However, Iranian officials have vowed to respond with “maximum resistance” to any such pressures, highlighting the continued tensions between the US and Iran.
