As the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve, two rockets were fired from central Gaza towards Israeli territory, the Israeli military reported. The rocket sirens were triggered in several areas of the western Negev, including Netivot, Shibolim, Giv'olim, and Ma'agalim.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted one of the rockets, while the other landed in an open area, causing no casualties. Israel’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom, confirmed that there were no injuries reported following the attack.
The Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing, took responsibility for the rocket fire. In response, the IDF issued evacuation warnings for residents of al-Bureij in central Gaza, urging them to move to the designated humanitarian zone. IDF spokesperson Colonel Avichay Adraee condemned the continued rocket fire from areas previously warned for similar actions.
This rocket fire on New Year’s Eve mirrors a similar attack from the previous year, when rockets were also launched at Israel from Gaza, triggering widespread sirens and alerts.
The escalation in violence highlights the ongoing tensions between Israel and Hamas, despite previous ceasefire agreements. The IDF continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to responding to any threats against Israeli territory.
